Tesla Cybertruck Deliveries Paused After Acceleration Fault Discovery

Can Tesla resolve the accelerator pedal fault swiftly and regain the trust of Cybertruck buyers?

Deliveries of the Tesla Cybertruck in the US have been temporarily halted due to a fault that could cause the electric pickup to accelerate unexpectedly. Tesla fans and Cybertruck buyers have been informed about the delay, but the company has not released an official statement.

Tesla Cybertruck Deliveries Paused After Acceleration Fault Discovery

Tesla fan account Whole Mars Catalog announced on social media platform X that deliveries of the Cybertruck in the US would be paused for seven days. The pause is necessary due to a fault with the accelerator pedal, although Tesla has not commented on the issue publicly as it lacks a public relations division.

Several Cybertruck buyers have also been contacted about the delay, confirming the temporary halt in deliveries. The issue with the accelerator pedal involves the metal cover coming loose while the pedal is being pressed, preventing it from returning to its normal position when the driver lifts their foot. As a result, the Cybertruck can continue to accelerate even when the driver expects it to slow down.

A video uploaded on TikTok by a user named el.chepito1985 shows the potential fault in action. The video demonstrates how the metal cover of the accelerator pedal can slide forward, causing the pedal to remain depressed. Although the acceleration can be overridden by pressing and holding the brake pedal, releasing the brake will resume the power.

This fault is particularly concerning because the Cybertruck has a powerful tri-motor Cyberbeast variant that boasts up to 630kW of power. With such power and a weight of 3107kg, unintended acceleration poses a significant safety risk.

The pause in Cybertruck deliveries comes just two months after the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched an investigation into steering faults reported in the Tesla Model Y and Model 3. Numerous complaints were received regarding a loss of power steering assistance, resulting in drivers having to exert more force to turn the steering wheel or being unable to do so due to the added weight. Despite some owners already having their steering racks replaced, the issue has persisted.

  • US deliveries of the Tesla Cybertruck have been paused for one week
  • The pause is due to a fault with the accelerator pedal
  • The pedal’s metal cover can come loose, causing the pedal to not return to its normal position
  • The Cybertruck can continue to accelerate even when the driver lifts their foot
  • The stop-sale comes after an investigation into Tesla Model Y and Model 3 steering faults

The temporary pause in Cybertruck deliveries highlights the importance of addressing safety concerns promptly. Tesla, known for its innovation and performance, must ensure that all its vehicles meet the highest standards of reliability and safety. It remains to be seen how quickly the fault with the accelerator pedal can be resolved and deliveries can resume.
