Joy Wanner’s Fisker Ocean electric SUV was involved in a minor impact to its driver’s door, causing superficial damage.

Initially, the repair was expected to be simple, with only a slight crease on the door and a snapped hinge.

The estimated repair bill of US$910 (A$1380) was short-lived as the lack of available parts prevented the repairs from being completed.

One month later, Ms Wanner received a cheque of US$53,303 (A$80,100) from her insurance company, who declared the Fisker to be a write-off.

Ms Wanner has since replaced the Ocean with a Tesla Model Y and shared her negative experience with Fisker online, warning others to stay away from the company.

She expressed her disappointment in the delivery delays, mismanagement of paperwork, and numerous issues with the vehicle’s software and navigation system.

Approximately 6000 Fisker Oceans have been delivered since mid-2023.

If the company goes under, it will be the second failure for founder Henrik Fisker, whose prior venture also resulted in bankruptcy.
